Managing Yourself

By Jonah Mungoshi. Only you can manage you. Manage the actions that you take within the 24 hour period.

We all have 24 hours in a day, all of us, it doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter how rich or poor you are. It doesn't matter what race or tribal color or creed you are, we have 24 hours in a day. And yet, when you look at what we achieve within those 24 hours, there are some people who seem to achieve extra ordinary results. There are people who achieve incredible results within that 24 hour period. And the rest of us seem to just achieve mediocre average results. What is the difference?

Hello, welcome to the half hour with Jonah Mungoshi. And today we are discussing self management. Notice I didn't say time management, I said self management. And I did that deliberately on purpose. Because when we talk about time management, it implies that we are trying to manage time, which is not within our control, you have 24 hours in a day period, what you can manage is you you can manage the actions that you take within the 24 hour period, you can manage the decisions that you make and the actions that you take.

So it's about managing yourself within the time that you've got available to you. So there is a professor I heard about who came to a class at university. And he started by producing a bucket. And in this bucket, he put some big rocks, and then he said to the students is this full. And some of the students says yep, it's full, because the rocks are going right up to the top. So he proceeded to take a smaller bucket with smaller stones, let's call them three quarter stones, like the gravel stones used in construction. And he pulled these and managed to fit into the gaps that were left by the big rocks.

Until all the three cornerstones they had had been distributed into the big bucket. And then you say to the students is this for and some students decide not. So she said yes. And then he proceeded to take a small bucket with sand in it. And then he poured the sand into that big bucket and the sand managed to flow in between the three cornerstones and the big stones. And then they say to the students is this full understand that we're not so sure. Eventually he took some water and he poured into this bucket. And he said, ladies and gentlemen,

This is an example of how we manage ourselves if we are to use our time efficiently. If you start by doing the big tasks represented by the rocks, you will have adequate space and time to put in the smaller tasks represented by the three cornerstones, or those that are even more minute represented by the sand, or the really small ones represented by the water. But if on the other hand, you start by filling the bucket with water, there's absolutely no room without spilling out the water, you will be able to add the sand, the three cornerstones and the rocks. So the important thing I want

Important Concepts

  • Only you can manage you. Manage the actions that you take within the 24 hour period, you can manage the decisions that you make.

You need to start your day by attacking the rocks, look at the tasks that you have to do that have the biggest payoff that will give you the greatest advantage that will contribute most significantly towards your goal towards whatever end you're trying to achieve. Okay, take a look at going to Niki, which I want to go to as the day progresses wonders juggle divisor and you won't be able to deal with the big things. So I want you to be very deliberate starting today or maybe tomorrow morning. Plan what you're going to do right to the beginning of the day plan, what are the actions that you must, without a doubt, take maybe one or two don't don't do many one or two, that you say by end of day, I must have done this because this is the biggest tasks.

And don't be afraid to take on tasks that take you out of your comfort zone. Those that might you're not used to taking those tasks, you're not playing in the same league. You are advancing from boozers to division one or two Super League. What are the tasks you can do that will advance and move you forward? Start with those in closing this intro. I want you to eat a live frog. Each ganache can be seen quicker quicker. Okay get that can be then you will have managed to get the grasp of the essence of what I'm sharing. See you on the other side.
